Prototype is a NPC that can be found in-game and will enter the elevator.

Appearance

Prototype is a doll-like robot with white casing and a floating head adorned with four crystalline horns. The larger red and yellow horns protrude from the top of his head, while the smaller blue and purple horns point out from the bottom. His dark blue eyes have hot pink highlights, and his default expression is neutral with a slightly open mouth. The back of the head is missing its casing, revealing four exposed wires in matching colors to the horns. The face plate is fully removable, revealing a different face underneath, which is gray, with white 'eyebrows', the same color eyes as his faceplate, but this time looking up, two lines for a 'nose', and a grimaced mouth showing sharp teeth.

The torso is all white, and the arms have four claws each, matching the colours of his horns (thumb being red, index being yellow, middle being blue, pinky being purple). The left arm is mostly missing its casing, exposing grey metal plates underneath. The legs are identical and have grey sock-like metal plating on the bottom half, with visible bolts on the exposed metal areas.

Description

Personality-wise, Prototype is a curious and happy character, with them rarely displaying negative emotions in their dialogue. This curiosity can occasionally be detrimental, as seen when they recklessly smash open crates possibly full of Knived Voombas or Glowing Red Teddies. They can occasionally be extremely logical, something that is not always appreciated, as seen in interactions with Bive and Mozelle. They often study and record information about the other characters, usually without their consent. Their speech is occasionally interrupted by errors and glitches due to their somewhat unfinished and aged state.

Prototype spawns in the Find The Path floor sitting on a power box at the end of the level. When activated at the end, Prototype walks over the full path revealing which tiles should be walked on. He then enters the elevator saying "Ohh!" and "What's this?".

If MR is present in the elevator, or if the elevator is full, Prototype will walk to the end of the path, move to the side of the elevator and fall down the map, making the metal pipe falling noise after hitting the ground, similar to the first falling elevator in the Elevator Shaft floor. However, he doesn't die and he infinitely walks in a straight line until the floor ends. If the floor ends when he's walking on the path, he will not enter the elevator. It's also possible for him to accidentally fall into the abyss while going from a path tile to the platform that the elevator is on.

He exits the elevator on the Cardboard Mansion, Slide 4 Admin, and Two Stud Camp floors, before sitting on the logs in Two Stud Camp, Prototype will throw anything he is holding into the campfire, including Scag.

If the elevator enters the Floppy Shoppy floor, he will exit the elevator but only to pick up Scag, allowing her to enter the elevator with him as well. He will also leave the elevator to pick up crates from certain floors and the trash can from the Reddy's Underground Diner floor.

Crates

Crates are elements that spawn in specific locations on certain floors with a random chance. Prototype has a chance to go onto the floor to pick up the crate and bring it back into the Elevator. After an unspecified amount of time in the elevator, Prototype will either crush open the crate if it is wooden, releasing its contents, or simply drop the crate on the ground if it is a milk crate.

There are currently five known wooden crate variants:

  • Normal (Brown)
  • White
  • Red
  • Blue
  • Green
  • Yellow

All types of wooden crates have a uniform appearance in the game, a cube with a wooden texture. Each face is indented and the horizontal faces have a single diagonal plank of wood across the indent, while the vertical faces have two diagonal planks in a cross shape.

The milk crate variant appears as a dark blue milk crate with a mesh design and nothing inside.

A multitude of Glowing Red Teddy that damage the player when touched will spill out of the crate and bounce around the Elevator, accompanied by a loud, painful scream.

Voomba

A multitude of Voomba will spill out of the crate and fill the Elevator, some of them will be equipped with knives.

Coins

A multitude of Coins will spill out of the crate and fill the Elevator.

Glowing Squishy

A multitude of Glowing Squishy that heal the player when touched will spill out of the crate and bounce around the Elevator

Banana Peel

A multitude of Banana Peels will spill out of the crate and fill the Elevator.

Subspace Tripmine

A multitude of Subspace Tripmines will spill out of the crate and fill the Elevator.

Trivia

  • Prototype's name is a word used for certain samples/examples during the early development of certain things, especially machines, from which all other forms are developed or copied.
  • They were a Regretevator OC before being made into an official NPC. He was made by Nyan, also known as tidaldreaming, a contributor.
    • Prototype was a submission for the NPC contest and won, along with Pilby and Lampert.
  • Prototype used to not be able to enter the elevator in previous versions.
    • He used to be seen sitting down on a inaccessible conveyor on the Find The Path floor.
  • Prototype is one of six NPCs to have different facial expressions when interacted with, the others being Infected, Pest, Scag, Sebastian, and STAT.
    • He has different faces based on certain occasions.
      • He winks when he talks if he isn't holding Scag.
      • His face will become happy when showered with petals or when talking while holding Scag.
      • His eyes squint when he is hit by a snowball, or sprayed while holding Scag.
  • Due to a bug with Roblox's rendering system, Prototype's face was blackened when the update featuring him released, but this bug was only visible on mobile. This has been fixed.
  • Prototype is immune to the gas in the Hotel Floor, presumably because they are a robot that does not need to breathe.
  • Players are able to get the "BETA TEST" by meeting them for the first time.
    • Players are also able to get the "IP67 RATED" by spraying them with Spray Bottle.
      • "IP67" implies his water and dust protection is on par with, if not slightly inferior to modern smartphones.
  • If you spray Prototype when he's talking or being showered in petals, a bug will show making him play both the animations for talking and being sprayed, or being sprayed and showered in petals, at the same time.
  • Prototype can pick up Scag as well as the Crates found on various floors.
    • This is the only way Scag can enter the elevator.
  • Previously, when Prototype was waiting to be activated on the Find The Path floor, a very common bug caused him to face backwards, and his head - excluding the horns - did not move in the idle animation, making it seem to be anchored. This is currently fixed.
  • Previously, upon leaving the elevator, Prototype may say leaving dialogue belonging to Bive.
  • Prototype's faceplate used to come off after the Happy Home Party floor.
    • If Prototype has his faceplate off, his faceplates will be on the floor.
      • This is a bug rather than a feature and Prototype wasn't the only NPC to losing accessories due to this bug. This has been patched.
  • Due to the large horns that protrude from the top of his head, Prototype wears the hardhat provided by Mannequin_Mark sideways.
  • Prototype’s Halloween costume is a reference to the 2004 horror movie, “Saw”. He wears the iconic Reverse Bear Trap from the movie. He is matching with Scag.

  • He loves chewing on things.
  • Prototype and Scag are best friends with each other.
    • Formerly, Prototype was best friends with Miché prior to his removal from the game.
  • Prototype's favorite food would be cream/fruit/jam sandwiches.
  • Prototype's body is covered in white plastic shell casing.
    • Underneath is their metallic body.
  • Prototype can easily remove their faceplate.
  • He is autistic coded.
  • He is probably smarter than you think, but he just doesn't show it much.
  • According to Nyan, their creator, on the official Discord server, Prototype is ageless, but is specifically older than 18.
    • According to an interaction with Gnarpy, their company shut down centuries ago, meaning they are most likely over a hundred years old.
  • According to his interactions with Bive, Gnarpy, and Folly, he doesn't know what he is made for.
  • Prototype has dents and scratches around his body according to an interaction with Lampert.
  • According to a conversation with Reddy, Prototype can speak in morse code.
    • According to a conversation with Pest, Prototype can also speak Japanese, like him.
    • Their "universal translator" line in a conversation with Gnarpy implies that he can speak any/all languages.
  • His talking sound originates from the meow of a cat.
  • Prototype and Scag are canonically just friends.[1]
  • According to dialogue with Pilby, they can download various noises and sounds.
    • It is unknown where they are downloading these sounds from.
