Backstory

Melanie was teased for Regretevator as a hoax NPC, specifically to be killed by Folly, and was not planned to be in-game as an actual NPC; although she was still a canon character with potential lore to be revealed. However, it seems at some point the plan for Melanie's inclusion changed; several more teasers and lore reveals continued to tease a potential return for her, and on November 29th, 2024, it was officially revealed and confirmed she would be added in-game.

Melanie was finally added to the game the next day on November 30th, 2024, after being repaired and revived by Mozelle.

Appearance

Melanie is a blocky R6 (S15 at the legs) bunny with white fur, ears, and tail. Her most prominent design feature is her blue TV head, featuring a bright pink screen, large line eyes, a cat-like mouth, small fangs and freckles. She wears a thick, pastel purple hoodie with white strings, a black shirt underneath, and a pink half-heart necklace. She also wears a bright blue skirt with a stripe, knee-high socks with a pink and white stripe pattern, and sky blue-and-white tennis shoes with multicolored pastel doodles on the toes.

Description

Melanie is an anxious, friendly individual who seems to be very close with some of the NPCs. She is quite self-deprecating at times, such as stating "I'm not worth the trouble" when given certain items. She's nice to those who are nice to her, and can get quite anxious when Folly is mentioned. She also has a hatred for Folly after what she did to Melanie, which causes Melanie to make rude remarks about Folly when brought up in conversation. She has nicknames for certain NPCs such as Pilby (who she calls Pilbs.) She is also quite athletic, as she is the only NPC besides Wallter who can complete the Intense Obby, and she enjoys jumping. Mozelle calls her "hopscotch" as a nickname. She's helpful too, often offering to help others. In some instances, she asks if she could help Pilby get to their mother with the help of Mach. She also encourages Split when she mentions that she feels down while thinking about the future and Splitsville!. She also loves animals, as in one line of dialogue, she mentions wanting to protect the animals in PET CAPTURE DELUXE from "something."

Interactions

Melanie will enter the elevator from Mozelle’s Humble Castle, as well as PET CAPTURE DELUXE (where she will also leave). In the latter floor, she will walk around and help players collect critters before entering. Melanie will also leave on Intense Obby, Ballpit, and Cardboard Mansion.

While in the elevator, she will occasionally force all players and elevator NPCs to jump as shown by an indicator above the player's items; this forced jump can happen in mid air, allowing players to "double jump" similar to using Fizz Up! This forced jump can sabotage players in floors like Toolbox Speedway, and help them in floors like WALL OF. She will also heal the player for around 5-10 health if showered using Petal Cone by her whimsical(playful) nature that can be soul-warming.

If Folly enters the elevator while Melanie is inside, she will become scared, her ears will lower, and she will start cowering and looking away. In this state, she will no longer force everyone to jump, nor will she heal the player if given rose petals. If Folly or MR are already in the elevator before she arrives, or the elevator is full, Melanie will not get in; if this happens in Mozelle’s Humble Castle, she will take a seat at the dining table, and in PET CAPTURE DELUXE, she will wander off into the white void.

Melanie will accept Cheezburger, Fizz Up!, Cheese, Medkit, Fizz Jug, Red Block!, Infinite Ice Cream, Dance Potion, Chocolate Milk, Cooler, and Cake Slice. She will not accept the Magic Mirror, Jerm Pop, Wet Cement, Kitty, or Gas Mask.

• Melanie is created by nilawafer.
• Melanie wasn't originally going to be added as an NPC, as stated by yeuc_c in a Discord message, likely due to her death by Folly.
  • She was never meant to be a real NPC, and was only used for people to get attached to her.
    • She was finally added on November 30th, 2024.
  • Her dialogue with Split was once the only actual part of development she got.
    • According to CatJam, it was to fool everyone thinking the NPC was real.
    • Split has an idle dialogue referencing Melanie, asking about where she went.
      • Split also has an interaction with Mozelle, in which Mozelle asks Split if she's seen Melanie. Humorously, this can still happen, even while Melanie is in the elevator.
  • Despite this, she used to be a developer-exclusive NPC, only able to be spawned with the use of the command "npc mel" or "npc melanie".
  • On 11/29/24, Yeucc said, "we're adding melanie" in a premiere chat of the new Regretevator NPC video.
• She can complete Intense Obby, similar to Wallter and RAT.
• Melanie's name can appear on the floor counter.
• Melanie's emotional actions are a reference to Animal Crossing.
• Until the 9/28/24 update, Melanie's corpse was able to be seen in the background of Eternal Limbo. This has since been removed.
  • She used to be found in Mozelle’s Humble Castle in a new repair room to the left of the dining hall, where Mozelle could occasionally be seen fixing her.
    • This is no longer seen due to her being introduced, and the repair room now remains empty.
• Unlike most NPCs, despite Melanie's character model having R6 arms and torso, it uses R15 rig, resulting in her legs being "S15"; a variation of the R15 body type with no visible seams at the joints, making them more bendable and flexible.
• Melanie's running animation resembles the Bubbly Animation Pack run animation.
• Two Melanies can appear at once on the PET CAPTURE DELUXE floor if the first one leaves the elevator. It's likely this is a bug.
• There is a bug where Melanie doesn't get scared of Folly once both of them are in the elevator.
• Melanie used to have pink paws, but they were removed in later builds to make her model more accurate to a real life rabbit.
• In the 2025 April Ghouls' Update, her name was changed to "Bart".
• Melanie's original design was based off of a ROBLOX avatar nilawafer made in 2023-2022 as she was originally purely meant to be a disposable NPC for Folly's arrival.
• Nilawafer had stated that if Donald Trump, the 47th president of the United States were to die before September 2025, they would have canonized Melanie and Infected's relationship.
  • It is currently unknown if this was a joke.
  • Despite the time-frame having passed, he later stated that if Donald Trump were to die on the 11th of September the terms would apply as well.

Melanie's name comes from the word 'melatonin', a hormone that the brain produces in response to darkness that is known for helping with sleep and the timing of circadian rhythms.

If you were to turn off Melanie like an actual TV, she would go into a coma-like state until somebody turns her on again.
