Melanie was a hoax NPC who only appeared in a Regretevator teaser trailer. She also appeared in various fake teasers, but in the Elevator and with her appearance obstructed. Although she cannot enter the Elevator naturally, she is able to be spawned in by developers.

She was teased for Regretevator specifically to be killed by Folly and never meant to be in-game as an actual NPC. However, she is still a canon character with information on her that may or may not be revealed.

Appearance

In teaser images, the NPC appeared as a blocky R6 character. She had a white skin tone with white rabbit ears and a rabbit tail. She also had pink paws. She wore a pastel purple jacket with a black shirt underneath, and a knee-length, light blue skirt. Her head was a light blue CRT television with a pink screen, and a face on it.

Description

There is not much known about this NPC, as very few teasers were shown that expanded on her personality. However, she can be seen in the trailer. In the trailer, she can be seen waking up in a dark room, before she begins to dance among 4 large flowers on a stage with a grassy floor and trees, as confetti appears. However, during the dance, an eye appears next to her, shocking her. More eyes begin to appear around her, and she collapses to the ground, cowering in fear. It cuts to black, and when she reappears she is seen laying on her stomach in a dark room, before being dragged away. Ripping noises are heard and her decapitated head is thrown out of the darkness. Folly appears and makes a shushing motion, then waves before she turns and walks away. At the end, her head, with a broken screen, is seen fallen on the ground.

In trailer season 2, Mozelle appears behind Melanie while holding a wrench and a welder. Mozelle then drags Melanie's head offscreen, a chance exists she will be revived.

In Mysterious Ball Room, there is a theater room that resembles the forest Melanie was in.

• Melanie won't be added as an NPC, as stated by yeuc_c in a Discord message, likely due to her death by Folly.
  • She was never meant to be a real NPC, and was only used for people to get attached to her.
  • Her dialogue with Split was the only actual part of development she got.
    • According to CatJam, it was to fool everyone thinking the NPC was real.
    • Split has an idle dialogue referencing Melanie, asking about where she went.
      • Split also has an interaction with Mozelle, in which Mozelle asks Split if she's seen Melanie.
  • However, despite this, she is a dev-exclusive NPC, only spawn-able with the use of the command "npc mel" or "npc melanie".
    • On the contrary to all of this, Melanie's corpse has been removed from the Eternal Limbo, as well as Melanie's head being found in Mozelle's Castle. It is unknown if this is the return of Melanie or not.
• If spawned by developers, she can complete Intense Obby, like Wallter.
• Melanie's name can appear on the floor counter.
• After the 9/28/24 update, Melanie is no longer seen in Eternal Limbo.
  • She can be found in Mozelle’s Humble Castle besides the dining hall, where Mozelle can be seen fixing her.

• Melanie's name came from the word 'melatonin', a hormone that the brain produces in response to darkness that is known for helping with sleep and the timing of circadian rhythms.
• If you were to turn off Melanie like an actual TV, she would go into a coma-like state until somebody turns her on again.
  • They could run Super Mario 64.
  • She was also capable of playing recordings on her screen, but she was not able to broadcast anything live.
  • Whenever she was bored, she would play Pong against herself.
• Melanie is 6'4, 5'9 without her ears.
